The Brenda Danet Post-Doctoral Fellowship

RESOURCE: The Brenda Danet Post-Doctoral Fellowship

Brenda Danet

Post-Doctoral Fellowship

An initiative of Hebrew University's communication department in Brenda Danet's memory.

Even before learning of the family's gracious project of commemorating Brenda at Hebrew University, we decided to celebrate Brenda's innovative accomplishments by inaugurating a postdoctoral fellows program--a framework in which fresh research is sure to be done--and naming it after Brenda. We had no less than 9 applicants for postdoctoral positions in the department last year. Two of them received university fellowships, and of the others we selected three young PhDs for "The Brenda Danet Post-Doctoral Fellowship." Given our budgetary limitations, the fellowship mainly implies an affiliation and residence. We provide office space, library, Internet, and other departmental and university services.

This year our selections were Carmel Vaisman, Brenda's last doctoral student who recently submitted her thesis, Sariel Birenbaum whose work focuses on Egyptian film, and Galit Hirsch, who completed her dissertation at Bar Ilan and studies discourse.

Our three Brenda postdocs are working at the department since October, and all three have presented their postdoctoral projects in a meeting of our department.
